Two eastern Massachusetts charitable organizations, the United Way of Merrimack Valley and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay, have announced plans to merge on December 31. The new group will be called the United United Way of Eastern Massachusetts.
“The United United Way of Eastern Massachusetts will be able to offer so much more than the ununited United Ways ever did,” said a spokeswoman for the new organization. Once the merger is complete, the charity said it hopes to pursue merger discussions with other Massachusetts United Way organizations, such as the United Way of Central Massachusetts, eventually becoming the United United United Way of Massachusetts.
Some within the charity said they envision a time when the Massachusetts United United United Way will eventually be able to merge with United Way organizations in the other 49 states. “What a wonderful day that will be,” said one insider. “Imagine being able to tell our contributors that their check will be going to the only truly united charitable organization in the country, the United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United United Way of the United States”
